Sioux Falls mail processing center to remain open

After concerns were raised about a 10-year plan that proposed to move some mail processing from Sioux Falls to Omaha, the United States Postal Service has announced it will keep the Sioux Falls facility open as a Local Processing Center and invest nearly $13 million into the facility.

The American Postal Workers Union has raised concerns about the 10-year plan proposed by the postal service which aims to modernize the postal system and improve efficiency. They were concerned moving operations to Omaha would delay rural mail service.

Now, it’s been decided the facility in Sioux Falls will remain open and will be modernized as a Local Processing Center. No career employees will be laid off.

This plan still means transferring mail processing outgoing operations to Omaha. The USPS says a majority of mail and packages are destined outside the Sioux Falls area.
