Legislative slate of candidates includes a House primary in District 7, Senate and House primaries in District 8

There is a full slate of candidates for the District 7 legisaltive races. The distrcit is primarily the City of Brookings.

Republican Tim Reed has filed for reelection and he will be challenged in November by Democrat Patty Bacon.

The two Republican incumbents for District 7 House, Roger Degroot and Melissa Heermann have both filed for reelection. They will be challenged in the June Republican primary by Jeff Struwe.

Two Democrats are also running for District 7 House. They are Cole Sartell and Penny Haufee.

District 8 is the rest of Brookings County outside the city as well as Kingsbury, Lake and Miner Counties.

For District 8 State Senate, current Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree of Madison will be challenged in June by Republican Rick Weible of Elkton. No Democrat is running.

There are three District 8 House Republican candidates vying for two seats. They are Matt Wagner of Volga, Tim Walburg of Madison and incumbent Tim Reisch of Howard. No Democrats are running.

There is also a Republican primary for Brookings County Commission as incumbent Mike Bartley faces Dave Miller and Doug Post.

Independent candidates have until April 30th to file.
